Shoals of small fish coming through with the tides, you know they're there because the seals, gulls, cormorants and gannets gather. In the right time of year, the whales do too. Underwater, they form fascinating shapes, even something called a 'herring ball' that is a living, moving densely packed, perfectly round sphere of fish. They do this to collectively deter predators. We have a spot here in Nova Scotia called Herring Cove, so this one is all about the herring, and a nod to the beautiful place by that name.
