On the front is the iconic Cape Breton tartan, because really,. is there such a thing as too much tartan? (No, of course not!)
This tartan was inspired by Mrs Lillian Crewe Walsh of Glace Bay, Cape Breton, who wrote a poem in praise of Cape Breton. This poem was brought by Mrs Walsh to Mrs Grant in 1957 and the tartan designed to accord with the poem: 'Black for the wealth of our coal mines, Grey for our Cape Breton steel, Green for our lofty mountains, Our valleys and our fields; Gold for the golden sunsets, Shining bright on the lakes of Bras d'Or, To show us God's hand has lingered, To bless Cape Breton's shores.' Machine wash, no bleach. Air dry either sitting flat or upside down over a bowl. Please avoid putting these in the dryer, they won't shrink or warp, but they WILL get tiny puckers along the stitch lines, so to keep them nice and flat, please air dry.
My sister discovered these through a friend and then bought me one for Christmas. These are so nice! I have mine right by the microwave/stove area for anything - hot or cold! I really don't know how I didn't have this in my life sooner. So many burnt fingers pulling hot bowls out of the microwave. All a think of the past1
I'm a bowl-using fanatic. Prefer a bowl over a plate in almost every instance. My siblings bought me this for my birthday last year and I LOVE it. I use it ALL the time. Perfect for being cozied up on the couch with a delicious bowl of soup without burning my hands.
I am Mrs. Grant's granddaughter and saw these cosys at the SaltScapes show in April. I am very glad you updated the info about the tartan and its designer. My siblings appreciated haveing one too.
